A 7-session Learn-Along group designed to keep you grounded, accountable, and confident as you move through the newly updated Discernment Counseling course. Whether you're brand new to the model or returning to sharpen your skills, this small group offers structure, support, and therapist-mode check-ins to bridge theory and real-life work.
Just getting started with the Discernment Counseling training – launching August 5
A certified DC clinician who knows the model, but wants to review the skills and structure through this training.
Purchased the revamped course and want structure and support from day one.
Previously bought the previous training but never completed the original course—and want a clean, guided restart.
A Discernment Counseling-trained or certified clinician planning to take the new training
If you sometimes doubt what you’re seeing during a training—wondering if you’re interpreting leaning energy accurately or how to put the training into practice moment-to-moment.
This is a space where you can name what makes you most anxious or uncertain during the lessons—without judgment, and with support.
You already know the protocol works. But this updated training? It’s layered, organized, and packed with nuance—and it’s easy to get stuck before you even begin.
-7 live virtual sessions
(75 min, every 3 weeks)
Each session tracks with a section of the new training, so you’re never overwhelmed or lost.
-Pre-assigned content
You’ll know what to watch before each meeting.
-Reflections + discussion prompts
We’ll talk through the real stuff: where we over-function, freeze, soften and therapist-mode check-ins (when am I slipping into therapy?)
-Clinical note-taking templates
You’ll receive adaptable templates for writing session notes—by hand, in Word, or directly into your EHR
-A focused, supportive experience
"One of the things we want but not demand, is fidelity to the model.
Courtney is humble and extremely eager to do DC the way it was designed and to keep this going strong for many years to come. I could not be more excited about her leadership in this movement to expand awareness and training in discernment counseling!" -
Elizabeth Doherty
Hi! I'm Courtney, a licensed clinical psychologist, certified Discernment Counselor, and current resident in the advanced training program to become a Master Practitioner in Discernment Counseling. I run a group private practice in the D.C. area that works with adults and couples—and over time, discernment counseling has become the heart of what I do.
This Learn-Along group is for those of you who want more than just to check the “course completed” box. I’ll help you move from watching the videos to actually using the skills—especially the ones that feel hard or uncertain when real couples are sitting in front of you. Whether you're brand new to the model or refreshing your approach with the new training, you’ll get structure, support, and real-talk reflection along the way.
You don’t need to master this alone. Let’s walk through it together.

This is not a supervision or consultation group.
You must be actively enrolled in the revamped Discernment Counseling course.
Recordings will be available if you missed a class and/or for 4 weeks after the completion of the group —live participation is key.
DRI staff cannot assist with registration or questions about this group.
By registering for this group you are agreeing to being recorded.
By registering for this group you are agreeing to completing a survey/feedback at the end of the group that will be used for Courtney to be able to learn and grow as a group leader.
If you’re planning to go through the Discernment Counseling training—whether for the first time or as a returner—you’re in the right place. This group isn’t about status or certification; it’s about reflection, integration, and learning how to stay grounded in the model.
While live attendance is strongly encouraged, we understand that life happens. Recordings will be available so you can stay on track even if you miss one.
Yes. While you’re expected to show up live, recordings will be available if you have to miss a meeting. By registering, you are agreeing to the recording of the group. The recording will be available ONLY to other group members and will be available until 4 weeks after the final session.
This isn’t a consultation or supervision group, so we won’t be reviewing client sessions or giving individual feedback. That said, you’ll have space to share what you’re wrestling with in the training—and hear how others are navigating the same.
Not at all. This group is focused on helping you integrate the training. Whether you’re actively seeing a couple or just preparing to, the learning still applies—and often sticks better without the pressure of performance.
Because this is a small group experience with limited seats, refunds will not be offered after September 1. If you register and later realize the group isn’t a fit, please reach out as soon as possible. I’m always open to a conversation—but after the group begins, your registration is considered a full commitment.
This group is NOT for case consultation. While we’ll absolutely talk about how the training applies in real life and where you feel stuck as a therapist, we won’t be using group time for presenting individual client cases. If you’re looking for direct consultation on your own work, I’d be happy to offer that separately—just reach out.
Perfect timing. This group is designed to help you move through the training as you go, with accountability and support built in.
You’re in good company. Many group members will be certified (like myself) or previously trained clinicians who are returning to absorb the updated version with more clarity and confidence.
Totally normal—and welcome. We’ll create space for honesty and reflection, not performance. There’s no pressure to be perfect—only to show up and grow.
And you don’t have to speak up if you’re not ready. You’re welcome to email me your thoughts or questions ahead of time—especially if you need space to reflect. I’ll make sure your input is included in the session discussion, even if you prefer to stay quiet during the call.—and welcome. We’ll create space for honesty and reflection, not performance. There’s no pressure to be perfect—only to show up and grow.
No—this is a peer-based integration and support group, not a CE-accredited training.
